Project

Food Literacy - a New Horizontal Theme in Adult Education and Counselling

The main objective of the project is to establish "food literacy" as a horizontal theme in adult education and as a personal core competence, such as "computer literacy" or "consumer literacy".

The project objectives

  • to raise the awareness of multipliers in adult education of issues concerning food literacy
  • to develop materials that enable these multipliers to incorporate aspects of nutrition competence and culinary culture in their courses
  • to raise the awareness of institutions working with clients from socially and/or economically disadvantaged target groups who cannot be reached by conventional adult education offers
  • to show how food or nutrition campaigns will have to be complemented by target group specific educational offers in order to lead to sustainable results

Output 1: Guidelines

An output of the project "Food Literacy" is the manual "Guidelines for Introducing Food Literacy as Horizontal Theme into Adult Education and Adult Counselling". It is targeted at multipliers in adult education and counselling. Trainers and counsellors will be enabled to develop awareness and raise these skills among their clients by introducing issues of food literacy, culinary culture and nutrition competence as a horizontal theme into their respective activities.

The guidelines are also directed at experts working for health and consumer education and will increase the efficiency of their campaigns because aspects of practicability and the general setting of their target groups will be highlighted.

It is a collection of materials and methods, which, because of its modular structure, can be used for a wide variety of measures and interactions.

Output 3: Deployment Plan

One of the central project deliverables is the Deployment (realisation) Plan. It provides the partnership with a structured action plan for putting the project results into practice in the deployment phase after the SOCRATES funding.

The deployment plan will set up organisational models, suggest delivery structures and provide a basis for assessing the potentials for imparting culinary culture and nutrition competence as personal core competences in counselling and adult education. It will also suggest possible partnerships for deployment.
